Social media optimization is the art of using social web sites to promote your business or organization. If you do it right, you can attract thousands of visitors to your web site, to say nothing of the number of links. This article will explain SMO and offer some tips.
Social media optimization, sometimes called “social media marketing,” was first discussed online on August 10, 2006, by Rohit Bhargava, vice president of Interactive Marketing for Ogilvy Public Relations. He posted five rules of social media optimization; his original blog post has expanded to encompass 17 rules. Read the rest of this entry »

When I started my company just a short year ago I knew that I had to go out and shake some trees. If you know me then you know that I would never settle for a halfway approach so I set out to become the most networked guy in Boise.
I am a goal driven guy so there had to be measurement attached to this proposition. The question: How will I know when I am the most networked guy in Boise? I think the answer is simple: everyone knows my name without a dollar having been expended on marketing.
How did I go about it?
I began canvassing every networking event I could get to. Being slightly tech-centric
I also approached online social networks more like a ful time job. How many people can I reach in the quickest amount of time and make a real-world positive impact on their life?
Well let me tell you that the amount of effort I expended to reach nearly 2,000 people in and aroudn the Treasure Valley was no easy chore, but well worth it. The goal of being the most networked guy in Boise was going to pay off in so many ways.
Digital Introductions
As time went on I began making digital introductions from one person to another .. intermixing personal and professional, but with the intent of growing every one’s sphere of influence. I found this to be wildly successful and everyone benefited form the effort.
I found myself blessed that people would do so in return and I was graciously asked to lunch or coffee with soem of the most senior people in our state government and government and business leaders in Boise.
I would say it is working!
So have I achieved the goal of the most networked guy in Boise? Well I would say I am on my way. I certainly have made a mark and the social networks and offline networks had a ton to do with it.

I remember almost 30 years ago when my parents would take me to see my mom’s relatives in Alturas California that it seemed that everyone owned a CB Radio Alturas was a bit remote and a rancher community for the most part and everyone had these big long antennas on their automobiles that would allow anyone to talk to anyone else who would be willing to respond to them.
Information could be passed back and forth between a couple of people and unless you changed the channel to a less busy frequency there was a good chance that there were a lot of people listening to the conversation.

Google is to launch a service that would enable users to access their personal computer from any internet connection, according to industry reports. But campaigners warn that it would give the online behemoth unprecedented control over individuals’ personal data.
The Google Drive, or “GDrive”, could kill off the desktop computer, which relies on a powerful hard drive. Instead a user’s personal files and operating system could be stored on Google’s own servers and accessed via the internet.
The long-rumoured GDrive is expected to be launched this year, according to the technology news website TG Daily, which described it as “the most anticipated Google product so far”. It is seen as a paradigm shift away from Microsoft’s Windows operating system, which runs inside most of the world’s computers, in favour of “cloud computing”, where the processing and storage is done thousands of miles away in remote data centres.
Home and business users are increasingly turning to web-based services, usually free, ranging from email (such as Hotmail and Gmail) and digital photo storage (such as Flickr and Picasa) to more applications for documents and spreadsheets (such as Google Apps). The loss of a laptop or crash of a hard drive does not jeopardise the data because it is regularly saved in “the cloud” and can be accessed via the web from any machine. Read the rest of this entry »
